Jaw pain is a common yet paralyzing condition that may prevent you from eating and speaking.

Jaw pain causes

There are many potential causes, including tooth infection, and TMJ (Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorder). Other potential causes may include sinus problems, compressed nerves, headaches, or even heart attack. So if you are experiencing jaw pain, you should seek dental or medical attention.

Jaw pain relief

  • Apply ice. You can also alternate with a heat pack. This will help reduce swelling and relax sore muscles.
  • Avoid chewy foods.
  • Don’t chew on ice or gum.
  • OTC pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help with the pain.
  • Massage your joints by rubbing the sore areas you can help relieve any tension in the muscle and joints.
  • Seek medical or dental attention if pain doesn’t go away or becomes unbearable.
